Tentative Workshop Agenda
When you arrive, the researchers will provide you with a comprehensive introduction to working with hummingbirds. You will be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to band hummingbirds. You will learn about the different species of hummingbirds and the best methods for identifying them by age, sex, and species. You will also be taught how to safely handle and care for the birds. By the end of your training, you will have a thorough understanding of:
Wednesday, April 16 (6:00 pm – 8:00 pm): Dinner and an Evening Social / Workshop Introduction
Thursday, April 17 (sunrise – 3:30 pm) Field Trips to Portal area and ID session
Friday, April 18 (sunrise – 3:30 pm) Field Trips around SWRS and hummingbird ecology
Saturday, April 19 (sunrise – 3:30 pm) George Walker House Field Trip and hummingbird monitoring
Sunday, April 20 (sunrise – 12:00 pm) Field trip and wrap-up

Workshop Location: For those driving to the workshop, the Southwestern Research Station is near Portal, Arizona, and directions are at www.amnh.org/research/southwestern-research-station/about/directions-climate. Tucson International Airport is the nearest airport to the workshop for those flying to Arizona. More information will be offered on carpooling and transportation options to/from the airport and the workshop.
Air Travel: HMN will not provide airfare as part of workshop fees. However, a single shuttle will provide transport to and from the Tucson airport before and after the workshop.
