The goal of the workshop is to develop and improve skills needed to band hummingbirds safely. The banding techniques taught are those approved by the North American Banding Council and are consistent with the Banders’ Code of Ethics. This workshop is the first step in becoming a permitted hummingbird bander and preference will be given to those who are interested in joining HMN’s coordinated monitoring program. At the end of the workshop, participants’ skill level will vary and not all will master the skills needed to band hummingbirds safely. For those who master these skills, the next step to becoming a permitted hummingbird bander will vary and will be discussed with each person.
