Our outreach programs help us meet our goals of creating increased community involvement, providing hummingbird-inspired educational resources, and coordinating a successful network of multi-national conservation efforts. The programs in this area were created with the intention of spreading awareness, passing along expert knowledge, and celebrating the amazing connections that hummingbirds create.
Programs
STEAM LEARNING
This program utilizes STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) learning opportunities to create connections with students, community members, and the general public by teaching them about hummingbirds, their environment, and their conservation needs. The primary objectives of this program include raising awareness of the consequences of habitat fragmentation, teaching the importance of habitat restoration, promoting the protection of all ecosystems, and sharing information about hummingbird needs.
ONLINE OUTREACH
Our online outreach program aims to create faster connections with people interested in hummingbird conservation around the globe. Our main focus is to increase online communication by regularly sharing important updates regarding our programs and projects, events and activities, STEAM education resources, and ways to support our work. This will provide our network with the most up-to-date information from the organization while also growing our connections with others who share similar interests.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
This program is crucial for connecting HCNs' ideas and practices directly to local communities. This is done by focusing on providing tailored educational resources to communities based on their location; each community is unique and has unique needs. We are proud to work with urban, rural, and indigenous communities. The main goal of this program is to build mutually beneficial relationships with a wide variety of communities, involving as many of them as possible in hummingbird conservation activities.
ART & STORIES
Our art & stories program serves to transmit cultural knowledge about hummingbirds through legends, stories, and many other forms of artistic expression. As we collect and preserve the legends and stories that have been told by different cultures, we are able to showcase the significance that hummingbirds have had to many different people over time. Additionally, supporting hummingbird art in its many forms allows us to spread awareness of conservation needs from a creative and interpersonal perspective.
FESTIVALS
One of the primary goals of our festivals program is to celebrate the inspiring diversity of hummingbirds and the many things that make them special to so many different people. Our events serve as a gathering agent to bring people together to learn about hummingbirds and plants, establishing an appreciation for the whole of the environment.
FAIR-TRADE CRAFTS
The fair-trade crafts program serves a very special purpose as it creates a revenue stream to fund HCCRs initiatives while, at the same time, generating economic income that enables local producers to improve both their own individual livelihoods as well as local conditions. A primary focus of this program is to create economically fair opportunities for community artisans to display and sell their products.
